27 Dresses review

Posted : 4 months, 1 week ago on 1 June 2008 11:54 (A review of 27 Dresses)

Grey's Anatomy helped prove that Heigl was fantastic with dramatic elements (It's impossible to watch her heartbreak over Denny and not believe that.).. and the last few movies she has been in, including 27 Dresses, has shown Heigl to be just as excellent in comedies. I find she has this little spark that makes you fall in love with her on the screen... even in a standard romantic comedy that does nothing to really set itself apart from the others. That first slap down to her outburst in the bar were just funny and surprising. As I said, there's nothing but the usual romantic comedy clichés in this movie, but it's definitely a great way to wile away and hour and a half.

A Heart So Wild review

The old west is probably a rather odd place to set a romantic story, but I have to admit the interest in a stoic gunfighter has its appeals.

Silver Angel review

What's more romantic than being a slave in some guy's harem!? :P Cute premise, but rather convenient that the pasha turns out to be a well bred Brit!

Super High Me review

Posted : 4 months, 1 week ago on 31 May 2008 03:54 (A review of Super High Me)

High for 30 days. It seems to me if you're already a pot smoker, that's not really such a big deal. Did the documentary prove anything? No. Was it scientifically sound? No. Was it funny? Enough to be entertaining. All it really is, is a novel way for a comedian to put out a DVD. It was more interesting than just watching him stand up there and make jokes for an hour, but it's not as if it held any great revelations about marijuana or its effects on the body and mind. I might have been astounded at some of it, if I didn't think the physicians was a crock of shit. (Seriously, he had a Reefer Madness wallpaper on his desktop... sure, it's about marijuana... but it's a musical!)

A Gentle Feuding review

Historical and with great colloquialism speech. Now this is what a period romance should be. Lots of great interaction with the lovers and beautiful depictions of Scottish scenery and family feuds!

Heart of a Warrior review

Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 28 May 2008 06:10 (A review of Heart of a Warrior)

As much fun as the first novel in the Ly-San-Ter series is, this one was just a pain. Unfortunately, there just wasn't much of the story that was from Dalden's point of view, so you don't really feel as if you know him. From what we do get he's just a carbon copy of his father. The books could really have switched the two characters and we'd never know the difference. A large part of the beginning was about Shanelle; so much so that I felt like whining that she'd already gotten her own story! Also, Brittany was so ridiculously pigheaded about not believing anything that it actually becomes irritating. The readers expect some kind of resistance, not the urge to bitch slap her!

Love Only Once: A Malory Novel review

Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 26 May 2008 06:00 (A review of Love Only Once: A Malory Novel)

Someday, someone's going to have to explain to me why a mistaken identity or kidnapping is always so prevalent in these historical romance novels. This is one of the few by Johanna Lindsey I wasn't too crazy about. This one felt really more like a stepping stone to introducing the Malory brothers; no surprise really, as most will be featured in their own novel later on. Aside from that, the story is rather plain and spends too much time with the main characters apart and both of them under false knowledge about the other.

Man of My Dreams (Sherring Cross) review

Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 26 May 2008 05:57 (A review of Man of My Dreams (Sherring Cross))

I always love that romance novels will have characters fooling each other and making a big deal out of their social status or level... and then it turns out it's okay because everybody's really got a title, and they're all secretly rich! :P Still fun, if rather convenient for all parties.

Secret Fire review

Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 26 May 2008 05:54 (A review of Secret Fire)

Even for a romance novel, the premise for this one is rather ridiculous. That someone wouldn't put up more of a fight or that you wouldn't desperately attempt to explain who you really is ridiculous. Nonetheless, the most interesting part about this one was probably the look at Russia, its customs and a country, even now, so different from North America.

Hearts Aflame review

Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 26 May 2008 05:52 (A review of Hearts Aflame)

A viking romance... Really, what's there to dislike about that?! It also had that nice Romeo and Juliet touch (but with a happy ending), and interesting take on what that race might have been like. Quite contrary to what we normally associate with them.
