(A review of A Heart So Wild)The old west is probably a rather odd place to set a romantic story, but I have to admit the interest in a stoic gunfighter has its appeals. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Silver Angel review

(A review of Silver Angel)What's more romantic than being a slave in some guy's harem!? :P Cute premise, but rather convenient that the pasha turns out to be a well bred Brit! 0 comments, Reply to this entry
A Gentle Feuding review

(A review of A Gentle Feuding)Historical and with great colloquialism speech. Now this is what a period romance should be. Lots of great interaction with the lovers and beautiful depictions of Scottish scenery and family feuds! 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Heart of a Warrior review

(A review of Heart of a Warrior)As much fun as the first novel in the Ly-San-Ter series is, this one was just a pain. Unfortunately, there just wasn't much of the story that was from Dalden's point of view, so you don't really feel as if you know him. From what we do get he's just a carbon copy of his father. The books could really have switched the two characters and we'd never know the difference. A large part of the beginning was about Shanelle; so much so that I felt like whining that she'd already gotten her own story! Also, Brittany was so ridiculously pigheaded about not believing anything that it actually becomes irritating. The readers expect some kind of resistance, not the urge to bitch slap her! 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Love Only Once: A Malory Novel review
Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 26 May 2008 06:00
(A review of Love Only Once: A Malory Novel)Someday, someone's going to have to explain to me why a mistaken identity or kidnapping is always so prevalent in these historical romance novels. This is one of the few by Johanna Lindsey I wasn't too crazy about. This one felt really more like a stepping stone to introducing the Malory brothers; no surprise really, as most will be featured in their own novel later on. Aside from that, the story is rather plain and spends too much time with the main characters apart and both of them under false knowledge about the other. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Man of My Dreams (Sherring Cross) review
Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 26 May 2008 05:57
(A review of Man of My Dreams (Sherring Cross))I always love that romance novels will have characters fooling each other and making a big deal out of their social status or level... and then it turns out it's okay because everybody's really got a title, and they're all secretly rich! :P Still fun, if rather convenient for all parties. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Secret Fire review
Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 26 May 2008 05:54
(A review of Secret Fire)Even for a romance novel, the premise for this one is rather ridiculous. That someone wouldn't put up more of a fight or that you wouldn't desperately attempt to explain who you really is ridiculous. Nonetheless, the most interesting part about this one was probably the look at Russia, its customs and a country, even now, so different from North America. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Hearts Aflame review

(A review of Hearts Aflame)A viking romance... Really, what's there to dislike about that?! It also had that nice Romeo and Juliet touch (but with a happy ending), and interesting take on what that race might have been like. Quite contrary to what we normally associate with them. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Warrior's Woman review
Posted : 4 months, 2 weeks ago on 26 May 2008 05:48
(A review of Warrior's Woman)Often, if I'm going to read a romance novel, I prefer the historical or period ones. It sort of falls into the same category as period movies. SO it was sort of interesting to read a story that seemingly blended this aspect with a futuristic time period or alternate world. Quite interesting a nice break from the usual romance novel fare. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist review
Posted : 4 months, 3 weeks ago on 18 May 2008 08:32
(A review of Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist)I really liked this book! I thought it was just a wonderful example of not just teen love, but those awkward transitional moments between relationships, between what was and realizing that you're worth much more than that. A lot of cute musical references and modern teen verbiage, but it really doesn't dissuade the reader from the intensity of the two characters. It's fantastic to read it from both their view points... giving you the urge to smack them both and just say "Talk to each other!!" When the authors get to the point where Nick and Norah try to take that relationship to the next level, I was almost disappointed. I didn't want the story (the relationship?) to end on that note, thus sort of invalidating everything that had happened up to that point. It was handled so well, so comically, and in exactly the right direction, though, that I, as the reader, felt entirely vindicated. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
