DVD reviews by VoxySilent Night Deadly Night / Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2 review

(A review of Silent Night Deadly Night / Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2)If there's ever any holiday that had to be turned into a gruesome affair, it's certainly Christmas! ;) Typical '80s style slasher movie, though rather than rooting for the good guy, you find yourself feeling like the bad guy ought to really accomplish his final mission! 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Dracula 2000 review

(A review of Dracula 2000)It's never a good sign when a movie impresses you most because of all the cameos! Though I must admit I liked those corny lines thrown in throughout the movie; very reminiscent of the '80s slasher movies. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
April Fool's Day [Region 2] review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 16 May 2007 06:46
(A review of April Fool's Day [Region 2])I found this rather tame for the traditional horror movies around this era. The gore content was rather, which is disappointing if you're looking for a good '80s slasher film. The sexual content, though, seems just about right for this type of film! ;) Other than that there's just a predictable twisty ending. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Are You Scared review
Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 14 May 2007 06:01
(A review of Are You Scared)The first impression that you get of this movie, is that it's a really bad made for TV movie (if TV could show vaguely gory films). It's of terrible quality with extremely poor directing. The dialogue is hideous and the scenarios that are set up are ludicrous. The drill scene for example, with each "contestant" taking turns screaming... then pushing the button. It was just entirely too silly and contrived. The movie as a whole follows a cheap knock-off of the Saw series... trying to make us believe that the serial killer and his games are trying to teach lessons; though those "lessons" are never made clear. I'm a fan of horror movies, even the cheesey ones, but this is just bad, and not even in a "guilty pleasures" kind of bad. Skip this one! 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Urban Legend review

(A review of Urban Legend)*** WARNER: SPOILERISH *** The movie is decent, especially since it came out at a time when there was a whole slew of teen horror movies. I especially love this movie though for Rebeccca Gayheart's performance at the end. She made for a great psycho. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Catch and Release review

(A review of Catch and Release)I'd heard a lot of hideous reviews for this movie and when I first started watching it, I couldn't understand why. I thought it was a sweet movie about love and loss... and then in the middle of it all it just sort of deviated into filler. It was almost as if they completely dropped the ball and didn't know what else to do with the story. It picks up and ties together at the end, but I almost didn't finish watching. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
I Capture the Castle review
Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 13 May 2007 02:25
(A review of I Capture the Castle)A very sweet movie. I was expecting the romance and heartbreak bits of the movie, but was pleasantly surprised by the comedic aspects. Though someone likened it to a modern day romantic comedy, I'm not sure I'd go that far. It was very sweet though and if you like almost-BBC style adaptations, this could certainly fall under that category. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Beverly Hills, 90210 - The Complete Second Season review
Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 8 May 2007 08:35
(A review of Beverly Hills, 90210 - The Complete Second Season)Ahh, the good ol' TV days, where teens were played by twenty-somethings, boys cried, and every episode had a moral and everyone learns their lesson. As a teenage girl in the '90s, this show was something we all had in common and discussed over brown bag lunches! ;) I think the second season is really whre the show was starting to come into its own whereas the first season was rocky, still trying to find it's place in TV land. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Panic Room [Region 2] review

(A review of Panic Room [Region 2])If there's anything this movie teaches you, it's to thoroughly check your home after moving in, and make sure that the first thing you learn to do is operate the security system. ;) Aside from that, as far as thrillers go, this is one of the more interesting ones, great premise, though there are a few holes. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
The Prestige review
Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 4 May 2007 10:35
(A review of The Prestige)I'm a fan of a lot of the actors in this movie and was glad to see I wouldn't be disappointed with their acting. I admit to being confused for a large portion of the story line which is not usual for me. In the end, I was mostly disappointed about not quite understanding some of the roles. This is the first time in a long time, though, that a movie got all of us who watched to talk about it afterwards. We had discussions about the characters and their roles and motives; to clear up some confusion we also looked up the movie and novel online to ferret out some of the things we were left puzzled about. For that alone, I would recoomend this movie and its story. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
