American Dreamz (Widescreen Edition) review

Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago on 16 February 2007 08:35 (A review of American Dreamz (Widescreen Edition))

This is one of those movies where you can't help but think "Why on Earth did I sit here and keep watching this?" It's like it tried really hard to be funny and satirical but fell far flat.

The Ending Needs Much Work

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 13 February 2007 09:43 (A review of White Noise (Widescreen Edition))

Although I generally enjoyed the movie, the ending left much to be desired. I can't stand to spend all that time sitting through a movie, only to find that the ending will leave me with about ten more questions that I came in with.

Incredibly sunseful, you'll sit through the movie wondering where this is all leading, and if it's going to turn out to be exactly what it looks like. Unfortunately, the climax seems to belong to a completely different movie; there is utterly no correlation.

If you generally like movies about ghosts or communication from the dead, then I think it's worth seeing. Discovering the phenomena of white noise may interest you and hold your interest. But just don't expect a mind blowing conclusion.

A Period Piece Fan

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 13 February 2007 09:43 (A review of Tristan and Isolde (Widescreen Edition))

As someone who is a fairly avid fan of movies set in historical times, my opinion may come off a bit bias.

I did in fact quite enjoy the movie. Not being completely knowledgable about that actual history behind the characters of Tristan and Isolde, I was left with no disillusions as to whether or not movie accurately followed the story. I think that might have come as an unwanted distraction. As it was, I love the movie simply for what it was: a romantic fairy tale of honour and love.

The only irritant for me was the fact that Tristan (James Franco) had the fewest lines in the movie. This of course seems rather odd considering he is in fact one of the title characters! His scenes those were often eclipsed by the characters of King Marke and Isolde's faithful servent maid. I found myself searching for them in scenes for both passion and comedy respectively. King Marke was far more likeable to me and I can't help but feel like chastising Isolde for being young and naive.

Latifah Made For This Role

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 13 February 2007 09:42 (A review of Last Holiday (Widescreen Edition))

There is no doubt in my mind that I hold a soft spot for Queen Latifah. I find her to be refreshing, honest and down-to-earth-. That's probably why I love seeing her in roles like this. She is the quint-essential empowering female figure. I love that she always takes these roles where she's not shy about being strong, confident and a protector of the little people. She strikes me as the kind of person I would honestly believe could be like this.

The movie itself is what it is, a funny little romantic comedy about seizing the day and being proud of who you are as a person. My only minor negative thoughts really coincide with the fact that she just happened to have all this money. Yes, she liquidated some of her assets, but really, who's got enough to afford a $4000 a night room on top of everything else that was done during this vacation. It just seemed a little too convenient for my tastes.

It was an adorable movie, though, and either way, I would certainly recommend renting it.

Several Stars For Gore!

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 13 February 2007 09:42 (A review of Underworld: Evolution (Widescreen Special Edition))

Call me sadistic, but when I go see a vamp movie, the bloody teeth and shooting guts and gore is all that matters! But seriously, there was enough of that to please any fan. For the weak stomachs, you might want to pass. The movie consists of a lot of dismembering, beheading and random impaling.

I love the vampire/werewolf legends and myths, it's stuff that fascinates me. This movie is more in fun but I think the die-hards will like it, not so much for those who are new to it all. Personally, I really liked watching the change of the werewolves, watching the graphics morph and what-not, despite it being visibly faked.

I enjoyed the film and echo most of the other sentiments, Beckinsale was hot. Speedman stood his own, though the poor guy always seems to never get a scene where he's just clean and not tortured looking!

Chick Flick Indeed

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 13 February 2007 09:41 (A review of Annapolis (Widescreen Edition))

You'll probably hear it quite often in these reviews for this movie: people don't like James Franco, people think it's a lousy remake of "An Officer and Gentleman", this movie was more about boxing than about the navy, blah blah blah. Seriously, people are far to judgemental and critical of their entertainment. It's supposed to be mindless, you're supposed to be whiling away the hours in an imaginary life because your real life sucks!

Personally, I'm going to ignore all that. I'm going to concentrate on the fact that (although this haircut certainly didn't suit James Franco) I was utterly enthralled by the gratuitous shots of him sweating profusely and panting. Just as much as any male goes to see a movie to watch breasts bouncing and scantily clad women, I went to see this movie as an estrogen-filled woman who enjoys men who give me happy pants! Seriously, the raw energy of watching two men duke it, sweat flying, blood pumping, and deep gasping breathing pleases me and was well worth seeing.

Ladies, enjoy! This movie should redefine "chick flick".

Edison Force review

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 11 February 2007 08:17 (A review of Edison Force)

I certainly expected this movie to be a whole lot worse, though it certainly wasn't ground-breaking. My biggest disappointement, though, was that despite the plot, the movie contained little to no emotion whatsoever.

Half Nelson review

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 10 February 2007 08:06 (A review of Half Nelson)

An absolute gorgeous movie. Heartbreaking, but irresistible. Ryan Gosling was near-perfect and I hated him at the same time as I hoped he would come out stronger and better.

Teen Witch review

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 10 February 2007 04:51 (A review of Teen Witch)

I love '80s teen movies! :) There's nowhere else you'd see those clothes, that hair, dance numbers in tights, and cheesey white rappers. Just a fun movie all-around.
