Seven Circles review

Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago on 16 March 2007 09:03 (A review of Seven Circles)

For anyone who is a dedicated fan of The Tea Party, you might find this album to be a slight disappointment.

There is no offense meant to Bob Rock, but we all know he's meant for much more commercial aspirations than one would desire for TP... and that's exactly what he's done in producing this album. It's very much a rock/alternative album with a larger selection of radio friendly songs.

A good album nonetheless, it still contains classic Jeff Martin power lyrics held by his very emotive and inspiring vocals. The only thing is, I did in fact find myself longing for their traditional use of eclectic instruments and sounds.

This definitely ranks as one of my top 5 albums of 2005.

Places for Breathing review

I am stunned at the number of people who have not heard of Revis. A very under-rated album, in my opinion. "Seven" is the cherry on top of this cake.

Healthy In Paranoid Times [SONY XCP CONTENT/COPY-PROTECTED CD] review

Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago on 16 March 2007 09:01 (A review of Healthy In Paranoid Times [SONY XCP CONTENT/COPY-PROTECTED CD])

I love OLP. Always have and always will.

With that said, though, I long for those early days again. When Raine whined and fairly screeched and the music was the perfect soundtrack to your depression. It's how I came to know them and how I will always love them.

Either way, their growth over the years has been phenomenal and this album is no exception. I still dislike Bob Rock for making everything too commercial, but I'd like to believe that OLP put their foot down and hence their flavour is still all over this album.

It's taking me some getting used to, but I've no doubt it will be on repeat rotation for the next several days/weeks.

Gravity review

Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago on 16 March 2007 09:00 (A review of Gravity)

There's an incredible change in Our Lady Peace on this album, I find. Perhaps the influence of Maida's marriage? Regardless, in comparison to the previous OLP albums, I would have to say this one is the least depressing. The songs contain a much more positive and uplifting tone. Disappointing for some who were so used to connecting with their pain, but as far as I'm concerned, a good change. Artists grow and are affected by different things, and this album seems to prove that for OLP.

Clumsy review

If you're only going to buy one album by Our Lady Peace, let it be this one. Vintage OLP and quite obviously their break-out album.

I remember the first time I heard it and wondering where this group had been all my life and why I hadn't connected with it sooner. I think for Canadian youth in the '90s, there's a reason this album struck home.

Live Friday the 13th (CD/DVD) review

Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago on 16 March 2007 09:00 (A review of Live Friday the 13th (CD/DVD))

I've seen Maroon 5 live, and I honestly don't remember Adam Levine sounding so nasally and high-pitched. It's intensely overdone on this recording and actually takes away from the enjoyment of the performance.

The Unquestionable Truth, Pt. 1 review

Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:59 (A review of The Unquestionable Truth, Pt. 1)

Nice... split your album into two parts to further the bulge in your wallet..... I seem to be the only person who was rather disappointed with this album. Didn't strike me at all.
