Songs from Instant Star review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:58 (A review of Songs from Instant Star)

Very much a Pop album, but if you're a fan of the show, you'll more than love the album. It's an interesting correlation to listen to the music while knowing some emotional background thanks to the show. A pleasant listen.

The Other Side review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:58 (A review of The Other Side)

I was surprisingly (and pleasantly) impressed by this album. It's a very tough transition for a group so loud and nu-metal like Godsmack to make, but it was well-done. Although not their usual style, I think they made an interesting choice by going acoustic and I wouldn't mind hearing more.

What's a Man to Do? review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:57 (A review of What's a Man to Do?)

The one and only song worth listening to is the one release "Don't Wanna Try". The rest of the album completely bored me and stirred absolutely no movement and listening pleasure. Quite a disappointment.

Shawn Desman review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:57 (A review of Shawn Desman)

Pop-y, Hip-hop-y .... Sort of difficult to categorize. It's a fun album, though I leaned more towards the peppier songs, versus the slow and campy love songs. Don't expect genius work or to be impressed in any way, but maybe get your hands on a cheap second-hand copy! ;)

Chariot Stripped (Bonus CD) review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:57 (A review of Chariot Stripped (Bonus CD))

It took me a long time to get into the first single, "I Don't Want to Be". Every time I heard it, I was struck with the impression that it was Jonny Lang, for some reason his inflections sounded like him so much.

Repeated listenings to this album have made me fall absolutely in love with it. Kind of blues, kind of rock, I found myself clinging to a few songs repeatedly. "Belief" is a definite must-hear.

The acoustic versions of his songs only increase my love for Gavin DeGraw tenfold.

The Story Goes... review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:56 (A review of The Story Goes...)

What the HELL happened to Craig David? Where is the happy, booty music we so came to love from him? I'm so disappointed.

It's a great album, if you're looking for 12 really sappy RnB love songs, and one really odd song crying about the school bully. I was a huge fan of his last two albums, but this one just fell so short of the mark.

A Different Kind of Pain review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:56 (A review of A Different Kind of Pain)

Seriously... Cold give me happy pants.

This albums seems to be a bit more uplifting than Year of the Spider ... But I vaguely miss the days of bitter and angsty Cold.

Sometimes review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:55 (A review of Sometimes)

The subject of Alexisonfire will come up much too often in reference to the album. Whether that's a good thing or bad thing will remain to be seen as AOF and City and Colour are surely not the same entity. But what's really obvious is that this album surpasses all expectations. Whatever I thought this albium would be, this isn't it. It's moving and soul jerking. The raw acoustic guitar sounds only add to the joyous melancholy. I found it powerfully good from the get-go. Gems: "Coming Home", "Day Old Hate", and even the "...Off By Heart" intro.

This is probably the most underrated Beck album. Absolutely beautiful.

Monkey Business review

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 16 March 2007 08:54 (A review of Monkey Business)

I'll never understand why artists insist on having so many collaborative songs on their albums. The Black-Eyed Peas have always been able to prove their talent, and I therefore see the other big names on this album as a waste.

Still, it's a fantastic album and am glad to have new music. In all honesty, though, I find myself most attracted to the song featuring Jack Johnson. Wonderful mix and am a fan of his as well.
