Knight Rider review

Posted : 7 months, 2 weeks ago on 28 February 2008 01:23 (A review of Knight Rider)

This was just a whole lot of cheese... though the original TV series was, too. The acting was absolutely horrible, but there's no aruging that the car, Kitt, was really hot. On the negative I'd say this more of a two hour Ford Mustang commerical. But the fun of seeing a more modern version of the talking car might override that for some fans.

Whistler review

Posted : 9 months ago on 15 January 2008 07:41 (A review of Whistler)

I'm always surprised at which Canadian shows become really popular with tweens thanks to The-N... because Whistler doesn't seem to have any elements that would make me want to keep coming back to watch every week. I've found the stories to be developing far too slowly, while at the same time not giving enough credit to the characters, who are rather wooden and unlikeable. You're aware of who you should be rooting for, but can't quite find it in yourself to really relate to them or even care. The music can also be rather distracting: it's often too loud and used in scenes where a simple and subtle score would have been more effective. I try to support Canadian TV where possible and I'm a fan of Nicholas Lea, so it's with disappointment that I say I wouldn't recommend this show to people I know.

Life As We Know It review

Posted : 9 months, 1 week ago on 7 January 2008 11:54 (A review of Life As We Know It)

A really sweet show with characters that are easy to relate to. The acting wasn't always on par with top quality shows, but as most of the actors were just beginning, it's one of those things you can get past quite quickly. Though I think there was much potential for this show and its interesting break in the fourth wall, the plots were far too cliché and had been done over in tons of other teen shows.

Weeds review

Posted : 9 months, 1 week ago on 7 January 2008 11:48 (A review of Weeds)

I am so in love with this show and just started watching the first season this weekend. Great characters all around with interesting flaws and quirks. The music is also fnatastic, sometimes quirky with lyrics directly relating what's happening on screen. It also has a nice dark humour that isn't over the top.

Totally Awesome review

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 8 September 2007 09:37 (A review of Totally Awesome)

This was much funnier than I thought it would be, though the cheese and melodrama are painfully obvious. Love all the jabs and mockery of '80s movies, though were a few popular ones that should have been touched upon. Otherwise, Swain is ridiculous and fun to watch when she completely spazzes and starts yelling.

The Ruby in the Smoke review

Posted : 1 year, 2 months ago on 12 August 2007 09:35 (A review of The Ruby in the Smoke)

This is one of those movies where I walked away feeling nothing. I neither really enjoyed it, nor really hated it. -shrug- There was just nothing about the movie that stuck out was overly interesting. I don't think that can ever be a good sign for a movie.

Mansfield Park review

Posted : 1 year, 2 months ago on 8 August 2007 10:22 (A review of Mansfield Park)

I might have enjoyed this movie... if it wasn't for Billie Piper an her teeth. I spent hte majority of the movie watching her mouth and thinking "Wow, I never realized how buck toothed she was." It was incredibly distracting and unfortunately I wasn't entirely a fan of this adapation. It's not terrible, but I didn't find myself loving the characters as I normally do, and I didn't really care for Edmund's character; he was rather insipid and unlikeable.

The Fifteen Streets review

Posted : 1 year, 2 months ago on 5 August 2007 10:28 (A review of The Fifteen Streets)

If there's any thing most disappointing about his movie is that Sean Bean is featured so prominently on the cover, but is in fact only a secondary character (though an important one). Just makes you wonder what they were thinking. Other than that, it's sometimes a little bit slow, and the scene where the mother is sick seems ridiculous incongruous.

Pride and Prejudice review

Posted : 1 year, 2 months ago on 4 August 2007 07:26 (A review of Pride and Prejudice)

Of all the Jane Austen adaptations, I rank this one as my most favorite. I love that they absolutely took the their time with the story and allowed us to really get a sense of all the characters. Unlike the newest version with Keira Knightley, Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy actually becomes likable. This adaptation allows you to see the change in him as well as his admiration for Miss Bennett rather than playing on the assumption that we all know how the story goes and that we all just know what a nice guy Darcy really is.

Persuasion review

Posted : 1 year, 3 months ago on 26 June 2007 05:52 (A review of Persuasion)

I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like to be so in love with someone, and constantly be forced to hear about suitable matches and proper engagements regarding that person. I have so much love for Jane Austen and her "normal" looking characters that it seems adaptations based on her work can never be awful.
