TV reviews by VoxyHell's Kitchen (US) review

(A review of Hell's Kitchen (US))It's safe to say that if you're watching Hell's Kitchen, it's not to get some great cooking tips; it's really so you can see Chef Ramsay yelling insanely at the wannabe chefs. He's phenomenal at it and reduces contstants to tears on a regular basis. The only ick factor would be the amount of sweaty chefs, swinging ponytails, and taste tests; how can I go to restaurants again knowing that that everyone's fingers have been in what I'm about to eat?! ;) 0 comments, Reply to this entry
North & South review

(A review of North & South)I have so much love for this mini-series. The worker's plight mirroring Margaret's relationship was fantastic. I also loved that unlike "Pride and Prejudice" we also got to see the male lead's point of view, and judge his reaction to the rejection and how much it would have meant to him for Margaret to say yes. The character of Mr. Higgins was played played, too. He did a fantastic job and you couldn't help but find yourself pulling for him. 1 comments, Reply to this entry
Earthsea review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 3 June 2007 09:54
(A review of Earthsea)It's said that the adaptation of the novel to the series rather angered the author because this strayed so far from her vision. Having not read the books, I can't really pronounce how true that its, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me. There are a lot of similarities in the mini-series to Harry Potter which in the beginning can be a little distracting. But outside of the wizard school and those who cannot be named, it doesn't become as apparent. The wide mix of accents is also rather annoying; American, British, New Zealand, Italian... it just tends to make things rather awkward. Aside from that it was actually rather enjoyable and having watched it all in one sitting, I didn't find it very long at all. 1 comments, Reply to this entry
Veronica Mars review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 26 May 2007 09:18
(A review of Veronica Mars)Veronica Mars started off as a critic favourite, so it's a shame that the viewers and ratings were never able to catch up. It was a smart and sassy show that dealt with the popular issue of revenge in a high school setting. The show won me over in the first season for it's edgier and more "noir" style than most network shows airing at the time. By the third season, it seems that Veronica Mars' had lot its steam and the story lines weren't as gripping as they once were. It was incredibly disappointing as I don't think there'd be such fan fervor for a show since "Buffy". 3 comments, Reply to this entry
Blood Ties review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 18 May 2007 07:49
(A review of Blood Ties)If you're a fan of Tanya Huff's Blood books, it seems almost natural to be a fan of this show as well. Kyle Schmid plays an excellent (and sexy) Henry Fitzroy with such natural charm. Except for Vicki's sight problems being too often overlooked in the plotlines, the character representation follow quite well from Huff's written works. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Drive review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 17 May 2007 09:07
(A review of Drive)It would appear as if the Tim Minear curse lives on; his shows are consistently cancelled before they've even had a chance to really take off. Perhaps it's time he stopped working with Fox and told them to take a hike. As for Drive itself, sure the plot was thin, the concept was ludicrous, and it tried too hard for that "Lost"-esque fasion of storytelling... But can you really judge the future of a show based on four episodes? 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Instant Star review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 16 May 2007 08:34
(A review of Instant Star)I am way too old to be a fan of this show, but I am addicted to teen shows. Throw in a Canadian vibe and shout-outs to Montreal and I am done-for! That Alexz Johnson actually sings is a bonus I'd never expected at the beginning. I've loved watching her character grow and listening to her music evolve as well. The third season has proved to be quite interesting and I look forward to the soundtrack which will feature other Canadian artists as well. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Are You Afraid of the Dark? review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 16 May 2007 08:30
(A review of Are You Afraid of the Dark?)When I was younger, there were very few shows that I watched on a regular basis... and AYAOTD was one of them. Even back then, I could recognize the cheese and low-grade quality of the show, but those of us who liked to be spooked didn't seem to care at all. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
The Adventures of Shirley Holmes review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 16 May 2007 08:28
(A review of The Adventures of Shirley Holmes)It's mostly, if not only Canadians who will remember this show at all. I would consider it the more light-hearted ancestor of Veronica Mars, though being a descendant of Holmes himself added a nice little twist. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Breaker High review
Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 16 May 2007 08:27
(A review of Breaker High)I was a big fan of this show as a kid, mostly because I loved the idea of going to school on a boat. It was a very unique idea and certainly allowed for the show to be taken to interesting places. It was also a great start for Ryan Gosling ;) 0 comments, Reply to this entry
